Autonumber

The autonumber Field is used for sequentially numbering instances of one or more Item Types automatically. It may only be set once for each instance of an Item, and always takes a value one greater than the value the previous instance too.

How to Create

  1. Click the to add a field in your form.
  2. Choose “New Field”
  3. Select the table you wish to add the field to. Most of the time, this will be the current table you are on, called the current context.
  4. Select a field name and click “Choose Type”.
  5. Choose “Autonumber” from the list of field types.
  6. You can continue adding fields or click the “Select” button to finish adding.
  7. Once your field is created, edit the settings for the field to set the starting value.

Output formats

The Autonumber Field has only one output format, which returns the number stored in the Field.

Acceptable inputs

The Autonumber Field is set in one of two ways. If the Field has not been set for the current instance of an Item and the Field is displayed on a Layout that gets saved, the autonumber Field takes the next available number. The other way is by using Actions: if the autonumber has not been set for the current instance of an Item, if any value is set to save into the autonumber through Actions, the autonumber field takes the next available numberThe autonumber Field has only one output format, which returns the number stored in the Field.

Filters

The autonumber field can be filtered using any of the number-type filters.
